1800's Retrofit - Nansulate® offered a 21st century technology to increase the energy envelope

Tampa Port Authority
Insulation of Skylights to Reduce Heat Loss

Mueller Trading Company Retrofit Project

ISSUE: Bleck and Bleck Architects were tasked with using LEED guidelines to increase the energy efficiency of an historical 1800's building, while also keeping the unique brick look of the building intact.

SOLUTION: Nansulate® Translucent GP was applied
to masonry walls to improve thermal resistance, reduce energy consumption, and provide UV and moisture resistance.

Excerpt from Masonry Edge Magazine:

"A challenge in reusing old masonry buildings is dealing with the energy envelope. Owners and designers love the interior appearance of the old, raw common brick walls. The typical wall is three solid wythes of brick thick, with no cavity for insulation to be injected. Infiltration can be addressed with various coatings, but until recently nothing could be done about thermal transmission.

Nanotechnology is a field that has shown tremendous promise in the area of materials science. The nanoparticles can be suspended in a low VOC medium and applied much like a paint."

Insulation of Factory Windows - Estimated Payback on Project Less Than 4 Months.
Hyundai Corporate Housing
Insulation for energy efficiency and reduction of condensation

Cornwell Quality Tools

ISSUE: Cornwell Quality Tools needed to improve energy efficiency at their Mogadore, Ohio manufacturing facility. Large factory windows created large 'holes' in their thermal envelope.

SOLUTION: Nansulate® Translucent GP was used to insulate the windows. The application was done on windows where maintaining at least diffuse illumination from sunlight was a requirement along with thermal insulation.

"Sirs, We at Cornwell Tools have been very pleased with the results of using the Nansulate material as can be seen by the attached emails...

It's hard to quantify how much has been saved, but management has indicated over this winter so far we have saved approximately $30,000 in total heating costs. Many factors are involved in this, as other changes were also made (in addition to using Nansulate) such as moving the use of the overhead door in the steel room to the smaller overhead door in the inspection area, and adding a plastic screen at that door. However I believe that a considerable savings has been realized.

The cost of the (Nansulate) materials was probably saved in the first cold month."

Seattle Museum of Flight

ISSUE:The Restoration Team working on the world's first Jet Airliner (the DH Comet) needed a way to protect the aircraft which sits on the grounds of the museum from condensation and corrosion, while keeping the orginal look of the historical piece intact..

SOLUTION: Nansulate® Translucent PT insulation and corrosion prevention coating provided the perfect solution for an invisible thermal barrier, offering aircraft insulation that protected from corrosion and condensation.

"I am writing to personally thank you and Industrial Nanotech for your recent gift to the Seattle Museum of Flight's de Havilland Comet Mk4C Restoration Project. The entire Comet restoration group wants you to know how grateful we are for your product and the kind spirit behind its gift.

The coating you contributed has already become an important part of our eventual exhibit. We have painted the interior of our aircraft's forward passenger compartment's skin, and have already seen the benefits of its protection through a significant reduction in condensation. When we have completed the entire project, Industrial Nanotech's coating will be an important hidden addition to the 'first Jet Airliner' exhibit. The original interior skin finish was a revolutionary (for 1959) epoxy. It seems appropriate that we replace it with a revolutionary (for 2006) coating by Industrial Nanotech..."
